2411 Webster Street. San Francisco. Each time I come to this apartment building, I always wonder what went on behind those doors 53 years ago when my mom lived there. Was she really as innocent as she claimed to be? Or did she have crazy parties? Did she really run out of the room when anyone brought "Douglas" out? For those of you that have no idea what Douglas is- just think of San Francisco. In the 60's. You guess what it is now? Apparently Douglas was the code for it. I love thinking about what she was like then, and I always go by the apartment every time I am in the city. I think the Pat in my brain is a lot more tame than the Pat that lived in that building. I just wish I could get a peek...
I remember your hunt for this place on our trip:) And then the hunt for Mrs. See's chocolate. And then the not-so-small task of attempting to keep the box of chocolate from melting on our return trip...I'm sure your mom was ever so grateful for the soggy box of chocolate...I picture it all funny looking and whitish from melting/hardening/possibly getting wet in the cooler...what a good daughter:) Glad you had a spectacular birthday/anniversary/Christmas dinner!!
ReplyDeleteEven though I have been to this house at least 10 times now, I still drive around and around because for some reason I am never 100% sure its 2411, could it be 1124 or 2411? Always. Mental block.
ReplyDeleteDo you know that there is a See's all over the place here? They even have the candy in the airport. I can also now order it online. That would have been very useful back on our trip!
